Flashpoint:
Outline:
After reading
many complaints on the BIS forums about the lack of new missions being created,
I felt that a mission editing competition would help create more activity in
the mission editing scene. Monday 14th June will see the launch of
the official Bohemia Interactive “Operation Flashpoint: Mission Editing
Competition”.
There will be a
number of prizes handed out, including signed T-shirts and OFP Bestseller
editions for 10 finalists.
The grand prize
will be a full VBS1 suite (VBS1 & 8 addon discs:- Observer 2 Module, Special Forces Pack, Marine Pack, Terrain pack, Terrain Pack, OPFOR Pack, Australian Defence Force
Pack, Animal Pack), combined value $540US
/ ˆ483/ £322.
The competition
will start Monday 14th June and run for 2 months with the closing
date being 0900CET Monday 16th August 2004.

The mission
must be fully playable, i.e. a mission that is only a trailer is not
acceptable.
Judging/Scoring:
Judging will be
done by a mixed group of people from the Operation Flashpoint community who
will offer different levels of knowledge, skill and personal preference to
their decisions. Applications to judge the missions will be accepted up to the
time that judging starts, or when a sufficient number of judges has been found,
whichever is soonest, the minimum amount of judges will be 10 to give an
accurate and balanced rating for each mission.
The competition
will run through a number of stages. At the first stage we will exclude any
that break the submission rules or are of a low standard. Missions that
progress to the second stage will be made anonymous and then played and judged
by the panel in closed sessions, those given the highest combined score will go
through, this will continue until we have arrived at our 10 finalists.
The final stage
will see 10 missions make it through; they will at all have won a signed
T-shirt and signed “OFP Bestseller”. We will make the 10 finalists public and
available for download, there will also be a public vote for the most popular
mission with a separate prize awarded. The main prize will then be decided by a
final round of judging.
The missions
will be rated out of 10 for the following criteria…….
-Briefing/Overview:
(i.e. well thought out, interesting, informative)
-Playability (i.e.
no bugs or glitches)
-Uniqueness (i.e.
is it just another Desert Ambush clone?)
-Novelty value (i.e.
creative use of scripts, addons etc.)
-Atmosphere/Realism:
(good use of cutscenes, well thought out structure/plot, balanced combat)
The combined
total will be shown as a score out of 50.
